Simple
but sophisticated, restrained yet in perfect balance; English couturier,
Victor Edelstein's dresses embody the vibrant re-emergence of couture
in Britain. Representing the new, inspired breed of young Brits
who designed their way to prominence in the Sixties, Edelstein's
artistry has well and truly come of age.
Victor
Edelstein is regarded as a master of the society ballgown and cosmopolitan
chic evening wear. Designing for a charmed lifestyle, with a minimum
of fuss he creates dresses of perfect line and classic profile which
bring something of the surreal elegance of the cinema to the grand
occasion. Amongst his exclusive clientele, English-born patrons
are predictably few and far between. As one of the mere handful
of true British couturiers, Edelstein relies heavily upon the patronage
of wealthy European and American expatriates living in London in
order to continue his talent and passion for exquisite detail in
design, highly personal service and superior fabrics, which he believes
form the basis of all couture.
"I
design for a way of life that people with a certain amount of money
choose to live", says Edelstein. "Essentially their lives
revolve around the dinner party and going to balls and so I design
dresses which enhance them and which they feel comfortable wearing.
People tell me my dresses have a recognisable look, but it is not
easy to define. It is perhaps better that you stay for a show and
then you can tell me what the look is".
